Best Gyms in Cork

Cork has a real spread of gym options - from city-centre budget chains to local mid-range clubs. We have visited each one in this list, paid for memberships, and trained there long enough to know the difference between a good marketing photo and a good training floor.

1. Motivated Fitness, Ballycureen

No frills, no nonsense warehouse gym in Ballycureen Industrial Park. 3 squat racks, a Smith machine, a wall of dumbbells, plenty of back and chest machines, and a positive crowd of serious lifters. €45 a month and exactly what Cork needed.

2. Dennehys Gym Penrose Dock

Slick basement gym under one of Cork's newest city-centre office blocks. A clear step up from Dennehy's Douglas — bigger floor, better kit, much nicer dressing rooms — and the same €79 four-gym membership covers all four locations. The catch is parking: it's the one Dennehy's site without a free car park.

3. Dennehys Gym Douglas

A solid mid-range gym on the top floor of Douglas Village Shopping Centre. Friendly staff, decent kit, free parking and views over Douglas. Size is the main constraint — busy at peak times — but the Platinum membership gets you into all four Dennehys locations which softens that.

4. Flyefit Cork

Cork's biggest gym at €38 a month. Six floors, three of them weights, plus a boxing area. It is not a lifestyle gym and is not trying to be — this is a serious training facility for serious lifters. The trade-off for the price is that it gets very busy at peak times.
