8.1 / 10 Cork Xtra score
No Frills. No Nonsense. Just Lift.
We finally found a gym in Cork that matches what we've been looking for. Motivated Fitness is tucked away in the Ballycureen Industrial Park and it is exactly what it sounds like. A no frills, industrial warehouse gym built for people who are serious about lifting.

Getting In
There's no one on the reception here. The gym is manned by a turnstile with your card, which keeps things simple. We booked a day pass, pressed the call button and were let in with no issues.
The Setup
The parking can be tight during the day but it eases up later in the evening, so plan accordingly if you're training after work.
Once you're inside, this place is laid out for one thing. Moving heavy weight.
By the door you've got 3 squat racks and a Smith machine alongside some back and bicep machines. In the middle section there's a serious amount of back and chest machines plus flat and incline benches. Head to the back and you'll find the leg machines.
Along the wall there's a huge selection of dumbbells across a few different brands. More than enough range for whatever you need.
There's a mezzanine structure upstairs with additional leg, back and chest machines, and a small fitness area up there too. But make no mistake, this is a weightlifting gym first and foremost.
The Vibe
Pictures of bodybuilding champions line the walls alongside the kind of motivational sayings you want to see when you're grinding through a set. The atmosphere and the crowd were really positive. People are here to train and they get on with it.
Some of the equipment isn't in pristine condition, but it doesn't have to be. It's all 100% effective and that's what matters in a gym like this.
Who Is It For?
This is probably not the best place for complete beginners. If you're looking for classes, a spa, or someone to hold your hand through a workout, look elsewhere. But if you want to train properly in an environment that takes lifting seriously, Motivated Fitness is hard to beat in Cork.
