7.4 / 10 Cork Xtra score
First Impressions
Parked up in the shopping centre and made the long walk over to Dennehy's - it's out the front and around the side. You get some free fitness as you make your way up the three flights of stairs to the gym.
The staff were helpful and friendly on the counter and I signed up for a month. It cost €79 but you get access to all four gyms so we can review them all.

The Studios
There are a couple of studios, one for spinning and one for various classes throughout the day.
The Gym Floor
The gym is mid-sized and even in the middle of the day it was quite busy. I would say it does get very busy at peak times so plan accordingly.
The gym floor has the cardio machines at the back and then there are four rows of equipment:
- First row: light exercises and ab training
- Second row: cable machines and some heavier chest and legs
- Third row: chest and legs as well, with the benches off to the side
- Free weights area: benches, two squat racks and a Smith machine
It has everything you need and I like all the motivational posts on the wall. There are also stunning views out over Douglas from the stepper machines.
The Crowd and Atmosphere
The crowd was quite a bit better than Flyefit. Decent atmosphere in the place. The clientele is mostly local Douglas folk so it has a comfortable, familiar feel.
Classes and PT
Plenty of classes running throughout the day and good deals on PT sessions if you want some structured coaching.
Cork Xtra Verdict
Overall it is a good gym in a good location, but can get busy on peak times. The four-gym access on the €79 membership is what tips the value scales in its favour.
