Rocklodge Pitch and Putt is Cork Xtra's first pitch and putt review, and we couldn't have picked a better course to start with. Founded in 1946, Rocklodge has been rated one of the leading championship courses in Ireland for decades, having hosted 24 All-Ireland championships, more than any other course in history.
After finishing up in Cork City, we headed up to Rocklodge for a round and came away genuinely impressed.
The Atmosphere
As soon as we arrived, the vibes were good. We were met by a couple of friendly players already on the course and the owner gave us a proper warm welcome. The sun was shining, the place felt relaxed, and the people made it feel like a community course rather than a quick stop. You can feel the history of the club, this is somewhere that takes pitch and putt seriously, but it's still welcoming to casual players. Atmosphere score: 8.5/10.
The Course Layout
Rocklodge makes excellent use of its space. The holes are short but they're far from easy. There are bunkers placed strategically in front of the greens, trees to hit over and around, and the course uses the natural hills brilliantly to create challenging approach shots. Every hole asks you a different question and the layout rewards thoughtful play over raw distance.
The greens are small, which adds to the challenge and demands real precision. Combined with the elevation changes and bunker placement, this is a course that punishes lazy shots. The greens themselves were in good condition: fast, mostly flat, and consistent throughout. The tee boxes were well kept and the overall maintenance of the course was clearly a priority. You can see the design pedigree, the layout reflects decades of careful evolution.

The Welcome and Service
We were originally meant to start at hole one but the owner moved us to the fourth hole because of a backlog, which saved us a lot of time. Small thing, but it shows good operational thinking and customer-first management. Sound people running the place. Location score: 6.5/10.
Pricing and Value
A round costs €7 each, which is fair value for a well-maintained championship course in Cork. Memberships are reasonably priced too:

The Round Itself
The round was challenging in all the right ways. Short holes don't mean easy holes, the bunkers, trees, and elevation changes mean every shot needs thought. The volume of shots still left us tired by the end. That's pitch and putt for you, more physical than people expect.
