8.2 / 10 Cork Xtra score
Puccino's has been quietly anchoring the Douglas Village food scene since 2004, and after a full Irish here on a Tuesday morning, I can see why locals keep coming back.

Cork Xtra Video Review
First Impressions
I dropped into Puccino's for a full Irish breakfast after a physio session this morning. The cafe is right in the middle of Douglas Village Shopping Centre, jutting out from the corner in a spot you genuinely can't miss. There's an entrance with the menu displayed outside, so you know what you're walking into before you commit. Prices are on the mid to high side, same as most places these days.
Inside, the place had a good buzz. Around sixty percent full, with plenty of staff moving and clearly busy. There are a good few tables and chairs spread across the floor, so finding a seat was no problem. The crowd was a healthy mix of older locals and younger people, and it felt like the kind of spot you could easily walk into alone without it being awkward. That matters when you're solo and just want a proper feed.
A Bit of History
Puccino's opened its first Cork cafe in Douglas Village Shopping Centre back in 2004, as part of the Puccino's Worldwide family. Twenty-plus years on, they've grown to multiple branches in Cork while keeping the original Douglas spot as the flagship. The mission, by their own account, is built around memorable service with a bit of fun and quirky humour in the mix. After two decades in the same location, they're clearly doing something right.
Ordering
I was shown to a table and told I could either scan the QR code to order through my phone or go up to the counter. I gave the phone route a fair go, but the physical menu on the table was actually easier to read and navigate. The QR ordering itself just wasn't working smoothly for me, so I went up to the counter instead. No drama. Coffee landed within a minute, and the food followed about five to ten minutes later. That's a solid turnaround for a busy morning service.
The Coffee
Worth calling out on its own. The coffee was genuinely good. They didn't burn the bean, which is something I'm only properly starting to appreciate. A well-pulled cup sets the tone for the whole meal, and Puccino's nailed it here.
The Food

The full Irish arrived and I quickly realised I had no knife and fork at the table. I tried to flag down a staff member, but got slightly overlooked. That's the one drop on the place. Turns out there's a self-service area where you grab your own cutlery, water, butter, and ketchup. Once I clocked it, I actually liked the setup. It cuts waste and means you only take what you need rather than the usual pile of unused napkins and sachets.
The sausages were the first thing I went for, and they were genuinely good quality. Wrapped a couple in the bread with some ketchup, made a sandwich, and that set the standard. The bacon was the same story. Thick cut, plenty of meat, barely any fat on it. Then a bacon and sausage sandwich for good measure.

The potatoes were clean. No oil or grease pooling on the plate, which is rare. The mushrooms were nicely done, the tomato was solid, and the black pudding was well cooked. You get a choice of poached, fried, or scrambled eggs, and I went poached. Absolutely delicious. If you're at Puccino's, go poached every time.
What Stood Out
- Quality sausages, thick meaty bacon, properly poached eggs
- Coffee pulled properly. They do not burn the bean
- Clean cooking. No grease pooling on the potatoes
- Self-service cutlery and condiments. Smart, low-waste setup
- Solo-friendly. Easy to walk in alone without it being awkward
Staff and Service
The staff warmed up to me as the meal went on, though I'll admit I'm not sure if that shifted once they noticed I was reviewing the place. Either way, the team was clearly working hard and getting the job done. The one knock is the missed cutlery moment at the start. A quick prompt to point new customers toward the self-service station would smooth that over completely.
The Verdict
This is a really, really nice breakfast. The food is genuinely good, the menu has plenty of options across breakfast and lunch, and the location couldn't be more convenient if you're already in Douglas. It's a place that works for a solo coffee, a family meal, a post-physio refuel, or a midday catch-up. It's going to be very hard to beat as the best Irish breakfast in Douglas, and arguably one of the best in Cork.
