Frankfield Driving Range - Cork

Frankfield does what it says on the tin. It is the only driving range within easy reach of Cork city and it is a decent enough facility for a practice session. But there are a lot of areas for improvement. Unreliable opening times, inconsistent mat quality, and dodgy ball machines let it down. For a casual knockabout or warming up before a round it is fine. For serious practice you will notice the flaws. A 7.2 out of 10 - functional but with plenty of room to improve.

First Impressions

Looks good from the outside. It is a big spacious facility and one of the only driving ranges within touching distance of Cork city. Plenty of parking available and the place feels open and well laid out when you arrive.

The Range

Frankfield is a big facility running around 250 to 300 yards with plenty of bays fitted with automatic ball loaders. There is also an outdoor hitting area without covered bays if you prefer the open air. The mats are generally decent quality and there are plenty of targets to aim at with good distance markers throughout.

Ball quality is acceptable but nothing special. The automatic ball machines work most of the time but they can be temperamental and do not always spit out the full amount you have paid for. There is a short game area available for €5 which is a nice addition.

On site you have got a bar serving food and there is another beauty business on the premises too. It does what it says on the tin - you buy balls and you hit them. It is the only real option close to Cork city for now, though there is an indoor golf studio opening down by the Marina that could give it some competition.

Quite expensive if you are going regularly at €10 for 90 balls
