Cork Golf Centre, Inniscarra

After our Frankfield Drive and Range review picked up steam, a few of you dropped Cork Golf Centre in the comments. So we packed the clubs, drove out to Inniscarra, and put it through the same test.

Here's the honest verdict.

Where Is Cork Golf Centre?

Cork Golf Centre is in Garravagh, Inniscarra, about a 20-minute drive west of Cork city out toward Ballincollig. It's a fair bit further out than Frankfield, so this isn't a quick after-work stop unless you're already living that side of town.

How the Range Works

Self-service all the way. You load up the machine with coins and the balls drop out. Pricing is straightforward:

• €2 = 25 balls
• €10 = 100 balls

So you're getting 25 balls per €2 no matter how many coins you put in. No bulk discount, but the pricing is consistent and clear.

The Facility

The vibe at Cork Golf Centre is noticeably more peaceful than Frankfield. Smaller setup, fewer people, and you're hitting up a hill which changes how the range plays.

Targets:

• Slabs laid on the ground with a flag in the middle for 50-yard shots
• A clear 100-yard target
• Goal posts at 150 yards (a satisfying target to aim at)

Because everything is uphill, you're not getting much rollout. If you're someone who hits high, this range will reward you. If you're a low ball striker, you'll find your distances reading shorter than usual.

Pro tip: Bays 16 to 20 are the best of the lot and tend to be the most peaceful.

Mats and Balls

The mats were actually a notch above Frankfield. Solid, well-kept, comfortable to hit off.

The balls were a different story. Mixed bag of newer and older stock, and we had a chunk literally come out of one of them in our first basket. Not a deal breaker, but if you're working on a specific shot and trusting your numbers, the inconsistent ball quality will frustrate you.

Short Game and Putting

This is where Cork Golf Centre falls short.

There is no chipping area or short game practice. The indoor putting facility was closed on the day we visited (a lady was inside studying), and from what we could see it's an artificial green which isn't ideal for replicating real putting feel anyway.

If short game is your priority, this isn't the spot.

Cork Golf Centre vs Frankfield: Which Is Better?

Cork Golf Centre falls short of Frankfield Drive and Range in our books, and here's why:

• Ball quality is noticeably worse
• Location is further out from the city
• Hitting area is smaller
• No chipping or short game practice

That said, if you live west of the city, you prefer a quieter range, or you want lessons with Wayne, it's a solid option. The mats are good, the targets are fun (those goal posts are class), and the value per ball is fair.

Final Verdict

Cork Golf Centre gets a respectable 6.8 out of 10. It's a real range with real character, but it's a step behind Frankfield on the things that matter most to a regular range visitor.

If you're a Cork golfer working on your full swing and you live on the west side, give it a go. If you want chipping, putting, and the full practice experience, Frankfield still wins.
