8.2 / 10 Cork Xtra score
Disclosure: This session was provided complimentary by the clinic. The score reflects the quality of treatment, with that context noted.
I'd been dealing with two issues that needed proper attention. Scoliosis of the back that flares up under load, and golfer's elbow from filming all these driving range audits. Deep tissue at a regular therapist had taken the edge off but was not fixing the cause. Time to see an actual osteopath.
First Impressions
Cork Care Clinic is easy to find. It is in Douglas Medical Centre, right next to KC's, with plenty of parking at Douglas Village Shopping Centre two or three minutes' walk away. You head up the stairs, walk straight ahead, and there is a clear sign for the osteopath at the top. Walk through the main door and you are in.
The setup is compact but well laid out. Three treatment rooms in the office block, a reception area, and a GP on the first floor of the same building. David met me in reception personally. The whole space feels professional without being clinical. The kind of place you actually want to come back to.
A Bit About David
David's path into osteopathy is the reason this review matters. He started his career as a Personal Trainer and moved into osteopathy specifically because he kept seeing clients with injuries he could not fully fix through training alone. That is a real motivation, not a career convenience. Four years into osteopathy now, he has clearly done the work to develop the craft.
He has also got 25+ five-star Google reviews and a roster of patients who repeat. While I was sitting in reception, another patient walked in and said "I heard you are the best." That is not something you can fake.
David has bigger plans too. He is working toward opening his own clinic and expanding the practice. Worth knowing if you are looking for a practitioner who is invested in the long game.
The Treatment
This is where the difference between a deep tissue therapist and a proper osteopath becomes obvious.
For the scoliosis, David started by explaining how to position myself on the bed, did a quick diagnostic assessment, and identified the issues fast. He then ran a proper multi-modal treatment:
- Dry needling at the trigger points
- Hot light therapy
- Direct neck adjustments
- Deep tissue work to release the surrounding muscle tension
- Targeted stretching to mobilise the affected areas
For the golfer's elbow, more dry needling, a couple of joint adjustments, and focused massage work. Different approach for a different issue, both clearly considered rather than generic.
What stood out was the diagnostic process. He did not just work the symptoms. He identified what was actually going on and built the treatment around it. That is the difference between paying for a massage and paying for treatment.
Pricing and Value
€75 per hour is competitive for Douglas. Osteopathy in Cork ranges from €60 to €90 depending on practitioner and location, so David sits in the middle of the market. For the breadth of treatment included, dry needling, adjustments, light therapy, soft tissue work, stretching, it is good value compared to single-modality therapists at similar price points.
What Stood Out
- Multi-modal approach. Not just one technique, the full toolkit applied where needed
- Personal training background. Real hands-on understanding of how the body moves under load
- Fast diagnosis. He identified what was going on within minutes, not after three sessions
- Clean facility, easy access, plenty of parking nearby
- 25+ five-star Google reviews and word-of-mouth reputation in Douglas
Who This Suits
- Sports injuries. Running, golf, gym work, cycling
- Back issues including scoliosis and chronic pain
- Joint issues. Knees, elbows, shoulders, neck
- Post-injury rehabilitation including ACL recovery
- Anyone who has tried massage therapy and needs something more diagnostic
The Verdict
David is the kind of practitioner you find through word of mouth and end up referring everyone you know to. Strong diagnostic skills, broad technique range, medical background, and genuinely cares about the outcome. The relationship felt like meeting someone who will be a long-term part of staying healthy in Cork, not a one-off treatment.
