The Atmosphere
Cafe Mexicana is busy, bright and decorated in classic Mexican style with sombreros on the walls. We were led upstairs to a dining area with great energy and a laid-back feel. Atmosphere score: 7.5/10.
The Staff
Friendly and welcoming throughout. Some of the staff are Mexican, which adds to the authenticity of the experience. Staff score: 7/10.
The Food
We ordered a proper spread to test the menu: quesadillas, jalapeño poppers, nachos, beef tacos and chicken tacos. The flavours were bold and authentic, the kind of Mexican cooking that actually tastes like Mexico, not a watered-down Irish version.
The quesadillas at €7.50 represented great value, with chicken quesadillas at €8.50. Mains came in around €18.50. Prices sit at mid-level for Cork dining, fair for the quality on the plate.

The Drinks
The Modelo Especial paired perfectly with the food. The two friends I went with had spicy margaritas, which they rated as one of the highlights of the evening. Properly made, well-balanced, with real heat. If you're a margarita drinker, this is reason enough alone to visit.

Clean, well-presented, comfortable upstairs dining area. Facility score: 7/10.
Value for Money
Starters €7.50, mains €18.50. For the quality and portion sizes, this is fair Cork pricing. Value score: 7.5/10.
